Make sure to inquire with your moving company as you may have to pay long distance charges even for short haul moves. What is a local move? This usually refers to moves that are less than 100 miles and within the same state. What is an intrastate move? This refers to a move of more than 100 miles within the same state. Can my children watch the move? For safety reasons, we recommend that your children stay with friends or family on your moving day. If they have to be present, make sure they are carefully supervised at all times. What is freight service? Freight service is cheaper than a full-service move because movers transport your items to your destination and leave them at the doorstep of your new home. All your items must be boxed in advance, and movers won’t wrap individual pieces of furniture. What is valuation insurance? Valuation insurance covers you for any damage that occurs to your belongings while they are in transit or stored in another vehicle. What is a local move? No, movers are not licensed to disconnect gas so you will have to hire another professional to perform this service. What is partial packing? You can leave lightweight clothing such as blouses, lingerie, shirts and sweaters in drawers. How are fees calculated for interstate moves? Your moving company may charge you a set fee which depends on the inventory of your items and delivery timeframe. They may also charge you based on the weight or volume of your items. What should I do if I haven’t finished packing by my moving day? If you realized you won’t be finished packing by your move date, make sure to inform your moving company as soon as possible. You may be able to hire professional packers to help you finish the job or move on a different date. Your movers may be able to pack up a small amount of items, but you will end up paying more for the move. |
